Save Cache

Knowledgebase

Overview

The Save Cache feature allows you to permanently save temporary cached data in your spreadsheet. This is useful for preserving important calculations, API responses, and other temporary data that you want to keep for future use.

When to Use Save Cache

  • When you want to preserve temporary data that would otherwise expire
  • Before closing your spreadsheet if you want to keep cached results
  • To reduce API calls by saving previously fetched data
  • To maintain a history of important calculations

How to Use Save Cache

Method 1: Using the Save Cache Icon

  1. Locate the Save Cache icon (💾) in the addon toolbar
  2. Click the icon once
  3. Wait for the confirmation message "Cache saved successfully!"

Method 2: Using the Menu Option

  1. Click on the addon menu
  2. Select "Save Cache" from the available options
  3. Wait for the confirmation message

What Happens When You Save Cache

When you save the cache:

  1. All temporary cached data is moved to a hidden sheet called "LongTermCache"
  2. The data becomes permanent and won't expire
  3. The original temporary cache is cleared
  4. A confirmation message appears when the process is complete

Important Notes

  • You can only save cache that currently exists in temporary storage
  • Once saved, the cache becomes permanent until manually deleted
  • The process is irreversible - make sure you want to save the data permanently
  • Saved cache takes up space in your spreadsheet

Troubleshooting

Common Issues

  1. "No cache to save" message

    • Solution: Generate some cached data first by using the addon's features
  2. "Error saving cache" message

    • Solution: Try refreshing the spreadsheet and try again
    • If error persists, check if you have edit permissions
  3. Loading spinner doesn't stop

    • Solution: Refresh the page and try again

Best Practices

  1. Save cache periodically if you're working with important data
  2. Clear unnecessary saved cache occasionally to save space
  3. Document what type of data you're saving for future reference
  4. Use save cache before making major changes to your spreadsheet
  • Cache Viewer: View all currently saved cache entries
  • Clear Cache: Remove temporary cache
  • Export Cache: Export saved cache to another spreadsheet
